At the San Marcos Senior Center, older adults can stay active, make connections, and keep learning through engaging programs and activities. We also offer community resources and nutrition services to support wellness, independence, and vibrant living.

Taxes

AARP Tax Assistance – Tax Year 2025

All AARP tax appointments are currently filled. For assistance in finding another location, please call AARP at 1-800-775-6776.

Due to a construction project, the San Marcos Senior Center is temporarily closed. AARP tax assistance appointments are being held at:

Appointment Information

  • Tax returns are prepared by AARP-trained volunteers.
  • To schedule an appointment, call 760-744-5535 and leave a voicemail with your name and contact information. Calls are returned in the order received.
  • Senior Center staff will continue to schedule all appointments during the closure.
  • Appointments are offered Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., beginning February 5 and ending April 15.
  • Appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes but may take up to two hours depending on the complexity of the return and volunteer availability.
  • Only one tax return (federal and California) can be prepared per appointment.
  • If more than one return is needed, a separate appointment is required for each return.
  • Both the taxpayer and spouse must be present during tax preparation.

Required Documents (Bring to Your Appointment)

  • Completed intake packet - Intake/Interview packet(PDF, 681KB)
  • A copy of your 2024 tax return.
  • All 2025 tax documents, including but not limited to: W-2, 1099-SSA, 1099-INT, 1099-R, 1098, 1095-A, 1099-B, 1099-DIV, broker statements, and California tax documents.
  • If you have broker statements, do not schedule an appointment before March 1, 2026.
  • Social Security card or U.S. Visa, Green Card, or ITIN for yourself and all individuals listed on the return.
  • Photo ID (driver’s license or state-issued ID) for all taxpayers listed on the return.
  • Tipped employees: bring final paystub for the year showing tip income and documentation of cash tips.
  • Employees paid overtime: bring final paystub for the year or documentation from your employer showing qualified FLSA overtime.

Cancellations and Questions

  • To cancel or reschedule your appointment, call 760-744-5535.
  • Senior Center staff can assist with scheduling but cannot answer tax-related questions.

Lunch Reservations

  • Reservations must be made by 2:00 p.m. one business day in advance.
  • Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.
  • Call 760-744-5535 ext. 3607 to make a reservation.

Meal Contributions

  • Ages 60 and older: Suggested $5 contribution
  • Ages 50 to 59: $7 fee
  • Ages 49 and younger: $7 (must be a guest of a person age 60 or older, and the senior must be present)

First Time Visitors

Before attending for the first time, complete the Nutrition Assessment form(PDF, 918KB).

Return the completed form by email to Kimberly Valdovinos or bring it with you to your first visit.
