Scholarship Program

More ways to play, learn, and join in! The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 to support recreation scholarships. Scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. 

How to apply

  • Submit your scholarship application online or at the San Marcos Community Center during normal business hours.

  • Application period: July 1 – March 31 (must be received during this window)

General

What programs can I use my scholarship funds towards?
Scholarship funds can only be applied toward recreation programs offered through the San Marcos Parks & Recreation ActiveNet registration system. Awards are for use within the ActiveNet system only and all transactions must comply with San Marcos Parks & Recreation policies.

How old does someone need to be to apply?
There is no age limit or requirement for this scholarship program. A parent may apply for themselves or their children; however, the name listed on the application must be the person receiving the award and the only person allowed to use the funds. 

Eligibility

Who is eligible for this scholarship?
Eligibility is based on current HUD income guidelines for the City of San Marcos. To qualify, the total household income must be at or below the amount listed on the HUD website. “Household” includes related or non-related individuals living together and sharing living expenses such as rent, food, and utilities.

Do I need to be a San Marcos resident?
Yes. Applicants must be San Marcos residents to qualify for the scholarship program.

What do I need to show to prove I am eligible?
Applicants must complete the full Scholarship Application and provide:

  • Proof of San Marcos residency
  • Proof of household income

Applications and required documents must be turned in online or to the Community Center front desk at 3 Civic Center Drive.

What is the process for getting a scholarship?

  1. Complete the Scholarship Application
  2. Gather proof of residency and household income
  3. Submit all documents to the Community Center front desk at 3 Civic Center Drive
  4. The scholarship administrator will process the application within 3 business days
  5. Applicants will be contacted by email or phone using the information provided on the application
