The Planning division is responsible for administering land use approvals as governed by the city’s zoning code. Land use approvals are needed to develop property or use property in a particular way.

Land use approvals may be approved by one of three bodies:

• Administrative. Designated staff approves the proposed land use request.
• Planning Commission
• City Council

Each land use request will have a different level of approval. For projects with more than one approval request, the highest level will govern for the entire project. A project may not be bifurcated to avoid more rigorous approvals.
