The San Marcos City Council recognized the Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Tuesday with the Civic SMILE Award, short for “San Marcos Inspiration, Leadership and Excellence.”

San Marcos City Council members each nominate one SMILE Award recipient a year. Mayor Rebecca Jones selected this month’s honoree:

“The Friends is dedicated to enhancing parks and recreation in San Marcos through service, collaboration and community pride since 2013. The Friends has expanded access to recreation through scholarships, educational programming and support of inclusive and community-building events such as the Double Peak Challenge, Summer Concert Series and Fourth of July celebrations. Their leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to connecting resources and partnerships have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the San Marcos community.”

Created in 2021, the SMILE Award celebrates individuals and organizations that embody the community’s spirit of service and dedication. See the full list of honorees on the city’s website.
