Nature Center Docents

Jack's Pond Nature Center relies heavily on help provided by adult docents during weekend open hours as well as weekday field trips We are looking for additional volunteers to add to our amazing team. A commitment of one shift per month is preferred. Training is provided.

Reserve Park Ranger

The City of San Marcos' Parks and Recreation Department is seeking new volunteers to participate in the Reserve Ranger program! The Reserve Park Ranger is called upon to assist the Ranger program in the protection and preservation of the city’s parks and trails; ensure park patron safety; interpret park rules and regulations to park & trail visitors, and to assist when needed in providing quality programs and events for the City of San Marcos. 

How to become a reserve park ranger

• Complete and submit the online application.
• Qualified and applicants will be invited to participate in an interview process.
• Selected volunteers will go through a background check, pre-volunteer physical, and a safe driving awareness course.

Requirements 

• At least 18 years of age at the time of volunteer assignment.
• Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license, Class C, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Available for consistent, ongoing volunteer commitment.

Trails Advisory Committee

The Trails Advisory Committee promotes community engagement in the development, maintenance, and utilization of both the existing and future trail systems. It advises the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Commission on trial needs and concerns, emphasizing the importance of citizen involvement. This includes collaboration with Reserve Park Rangers, docents, Eagle Scouts, school groups, interns, and other community members in the stewardship and enhancement of our trails. 

Requirements

• Reside in the City of San Marcos. 
• Attend quarterly meetings.
