Community Preparedness Fair

September is National Preparedness Month, and the City of San Marcos is inviting residents and families to get ready for emergencies at the annual Community Preparedness Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This free, family-friendly event will feature activities and resources to help residents prepare for various types of emergencies.

• Visit a Home Depot craft table, experience an earthquake simulator and connect with local agencies and emergency preparedness organizations.
• Learn practical ways to prepare for emergencies and take-home helpful resources.
• A limited number of free kids’ go-bags will also be available while supplies last.

Being prepared starts before an emergency happens. The Community Preparedness Fair will highlight simple steps residents can take now to help protect their families, homes and the community.

Families are encouraged to attend the fair and learn more about:

• Creating an emergency plan and knowing evacuation routes.
• Building or refreshing an emergency kit.
• Signing up for emergency alerts.
• Preparing homes and maintaining defensible space.
• Supporting neighbors and community members who may need additional assistance during an emergency.

Taking time to prepare now can reduce risk and help residents respond more effectively when an emergency occurs. Residents can also download the Genasys Protect app to receive important emergency information and evacuation notices. 

The event is free and open to the community. Residents are encouraged to come, ask questions and take more steps toward being better prepared.
