San Marcos paving project begins

The City of San Marcos is beginning its annual maintenance of city streets to prolong their life, avoiding costly emergency repairs and keeping your ride as smooth as possible. 

Beginning September 8, approximately 21 miles of roads at various locations throughout the city will be resurfaced based on existing pavement conditions.  

Tips for drivers 

• Two‑way traffic generally maintained; flaggers could direct traffic.
• Watch for construction signs along main thoroughfares for specific dates. 
• Delays could be likely. Please give yourself plenty of time to get where you need. 

What to expect if your road is getting repaved 

• If your street is on the list for repairs, you’ll get a notice at home giving you a heads up. 
• Work happens over the course of several weeks with crews returning to the same area multiple times. 
• Watch for “No Parking” signs and project notifications for specific dates. You may need to park down the street a few times. 
• Crews treat weeds and mark the work area.
• They make repairs and remove striping. The materials used need a couple of weeks to cure before resurfacing begins. 
• You’ll get a notice on your door 72 hours in advance of resurfacing work with instructions on moving your car. 
• Crews will pave your street. It’ll need time to cure. 
• Street sweeping and painting the stripes are final steps.
