The City of San Marcos has completed the first phase of traffic flow and safety improvements along San Marcos Boulevard between Knights Realm and Rancho Santa Fe Road by San Marcos High School. The project was completed on schedule before the start of the new school year, minimizing impacts for students, families and commuters.

The project was designed to help improve traffic flow and enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians in one of the city's busiest corridors. Improvements included extending the westbound left-turn lanes onto Rancho Santa Fe Road, modifying access to the shopping center to improve traffic operations and extending the median fencing near the high school to encourage pedestrians to use designated crosswalks. New landscaping and irrigation were also installed as part of the project.

While the project is completed, crews will monitor the landscaping over the next several months, which may require temporary lane closures to provide a safe work area.

City staff will continue monitoring the corridor to evaluate traffic flow.

Additional traffic flow and safety improvements are planned along San Marcos Boulevard. The city appreciates the community's patience throughout construction and remains committed to investing in infrastructure projects that enhance safety, mobility and quality of life for residents.
