With extreme heat in the forecast this week, the City of San Marcos is reminding residents to take precautions and plan ahead to stay safe. Prolonged heat can pose serious health risks, especially for older adults, people with medical conditions and those with limited mobility.

To stay safe:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours (10 a.m.–4 p.m.)
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in parked cars
  • Check in on neighbors who may need assistance

For those looking for a public air-conditioned place to cool off, the following location is open to the public:

San Marcos Library (2 Civic Center Drive)

  • Thursday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Residents can also cool off at the Las Posas Park Pool.

Recreational Swim

  • Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
  • $4 drop-in or included with Splash Pass membership

Lap Swim (Ages 16+)

  • Monday–Thursday: 6:30–10:30 a.m. and 4:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday–Sunday: 6:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
  • $4 drop-in or included with Splash Pass membership

In addition to staying cool, residents are encouraged to be mindful of fire safety during hot and dry conditions. Dispose of cigarettes properly, avoid using equipment that may spark near dry brush, and report safety concerns to the City using the Report a Concern tool

The City encourages residents to stay informed during periods of extreme heat and to take simple steps to protect themselves, their families and their neighbors. For additional information and City resources, visit sanmarcosca.gov.
