EV charging station rebates

The city’s EVCS Grant Rebate Program will be available to both residents and businesses in San Marcos. Residential rebates will be available to single family residences, multi-family apartments, condominiums and affordable housing projects.

Commercial/Non-Residential rebates will be available to businesses and non-profit organizations located within the city’s jurisdictional boundaries. Chargers installed by commercial applicants must be located in publicly accessible locations including, but not limited to, shopping centers, commercial business parks, office complexes, etc.

Residential applicants may apply for Level 1 or Level 2 chargers and Commercial applicants may apply for Level 2 or Level 3/DC Fast Chargers.

A Building Permit number with a “finaled” (inspection) date is required for EVCS installations. Some newly built residences may have been pre-wired, but the majority will still require an electrical permit, and in some cases, a mechanical permit as well.

The applicant must be the property owner or be the property owner’s legally-appointed representative. The EVCS Grant Rebate Program is limited to EV charging stations installed and “finaled” from 7/1/2022 and onward. EV charging stations installed before 7/1/2022 are not eligible for the program.

Residential rebates will be in the amount of up to $900 per charger for either Level 1 or Level 2 chargers. Single Family Residential applicants may only apply for one (1) charger, and only one application per address will be accepted. Multi-family projects can apply for rebates based on number of chargers installed.

Commercial rebates will be in the amount of up to $1,800 per charger, for either Level 2 or Level 3/DC Fast Chargers. Commercial applicants may apply for as many rebates as chargers installed at their property. All applicants must show that they have complied with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations when installing the chargers. Commercial applicants may apply for a mix of both Level 2 and Level 3 chargers.

The rebate can be applied towards both the cost of EVCS equipment and installation. Please note that if the costs of the EVCS equipment and installation are less than $900 for residential applicants or less than $1,800 for commercial applicants, only the actual costs incurred by the applicant will be eligible or reimbursement from the grant/rebate program. Additionally, these funds cannot be combined with grant funds from other sources if the received amount would exceed the installation cost and result in a net financial gain for the applicant.
