Fines now possible for e-bike riders under 12 and their parents

E-bike riders under 12 and their parents can be fined under a new San Marcos law, starting Feb. 1. The law was approved by the City Council in October 2025, with a three-month educational period preceding full enforcement.

Reminder: No parking within 20 feet of crosswalks

State of California Assembly Bill (AB) 413 prohibits vehicle parking within 20 feet of any marked or unmarked crosswalk. This rule applies whether or not there is a red curb or no parking signage at the intersection.

Parking lot, some businesses temporarily closed following fire

The San Marcos Fire Department responded to a battery energy storage unit fire in the parking lot of Creekside Marketplace on San Marcos Boulevard at approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was controlled within an hour.

San Marcos first city along 78 corridor to ban e-bike riders under 12

Like many cities, San Marcos has seen an increase in e-bikes on local streets, many ridden by teens and tweens who have not yet learned to drive. Bikes and e-bikes are considered vehicles under California law and must follow the same rules of the road as cars.
