What to expect during construction:

  • Temporary lane closures
  • Traffic delays
  • Please slow down in the construction zone and give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go

June 15 – August 2026
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Construction is planned during the summer while school is out of session, to help minimize traffic impacts.

What’s planned

  • Extended left turn lanes on westbound San Marcos Boulevard to Rancho Santa Fe Road. By making the turn lanes longer, more cars can fit in the turn lanes and move out of the through lanes, helping reduce backups and improve overall traffic flow in the area.
  • No left turn from eastbound San Marcos Boulevard into the shopping center. Drivers will still be able to access the shopping center from S. Rancho Santa Fe Road and westbound San Marcos Blvd. Removing this left-hand turn will help improve safety and keep traffic moving more smoothly through the corridor.
  • Extended median fencing in front of the high school. This enhancement is designed to guide students to cross at the designated crosswalks at Knights Realm and Rancho Santa Fe Road, rather than mid-block. Encouraging crossings at the signalized intersections will improve safety for students and drivers alike.

The city appreciates the community’s patience as we continue making roadway safety improvements across San Marcos.
