The City of San Marcos is advising residents and visitors to plan for increased traffic congestion this weekend as graduation ceremonies take place at California State University San Marcos.

Motorists can expect heavier traffic volumes along Twin Oaks Valley Road and nearby streets surrounding the campus as graduates, families and guests travel to and from commencement events throughout the weekend.

Drivers are encouraged to:

  • Allow extra travel time when driving near campus areas
  • Slow down and remain alert for increased pedestrian activity
  • Use caution near crosswalks and intersections
  • Consider alternate routes when possible to avoid delays

The city reminds all roadway users to prioritize safety and remain patient as the community comes together to celebrate local graduates and their accomplishments. Additional graduation-related traffic is also expected next week near Palomar College during commencement ceremonies.
