Parking lot, some businesses temporarily closed following fire

Part of the parking lot at Creekside Marketplace will remain closed through Monday, but all stores, restaurants and services have resumed normal hours. Work to decommission the battery storage unit is expected to continue through Monday.

All businesses at Creekside Marketplace are reopened. Parking may still be impacted.

The San Marcos Fire Department responded to a battery energy storage unit fire in the parking lot of Creekside Marketplace on San Marcos Boulevard at approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was controlled within an hour. Crews will remain on scene to monitor the unit and address any potential flareups until it can be fully decommissioned.
The battery energy storage unit powers Tesla EV chargers at the center.
About half of the parking lot and several businesses in the shopping center will remain closed as a precaution. There were no injuries or property damage beyond the battery unit and its enclosure.
