Applications are formally submitted in the online permitting system. You can check the status of permit reviews, fees, documents and other details in your account online anytime.
If your project requires plan review:
Staff will review your plans and supporting documents for compliance building, fire, zoning and other applicable codes. This typically takes about 15 business days.
If corrections are needed, staff will give you the details in writing. Then resubmit the corrected information for a new round of review.
Pay the permit fees.
Begin construction and schedule your first inspection within 12 months.
Depending on your project, you may need to have an inspector sign off on specific aspects, like framing, electrical and plumbing.
Schedule an inspection online.
After the final inspection, you may print a copy of your building permit with the date of completion for your records.
If applicable, the city will issue a certificate of occupancy or completion, signifying that your project is compliant and safe for use.
The city may also notify applicable agencies of your project's status (SDGE meter releases, USPS addressing, etc.).
