The role and duties of the Parks & Recreation Commission are described in the San Marcos Municipal Code. The Parks & Recreation Commission advises and makes recommendations to the City Council on matters pertaining to the creation, operation, maintenance, management, and control of community recreation programs, playgrounds, and indoor and outdoor recreation activities and facilities.
- Seven regular members and two alternates, as appointed by the City Council for four-year terms
- Application must reside within the city limits and must be qualified elector of the city
- Members are compensated $60 per meeting (chair), $30 per meeting (commissioners)
- Members must submit an annual statement of economic interest (FPPC Form 700)
- City staff provides an initial orientation and ethics training in accordance with state law
